Changes to the Professional Misconduct Regulation as of July 1, 2024

The Ontario government has approved amendments to the College’s Professional Misconduct Regulation effective July 1, 2024. The Professional Misconduct Regulation defines acts of professional misconduct for registrants. Registrants should be aware that, in addition to clarifying existing acts of professional misconduct, several additional acts of professional misconduct are expressly set out in the new regulation, including:

  1. Failure to clarify fees before a service is provided, or a product is ordered.
  2. Failure to provide patients with copies of requested records within a reasonable time.
  3. Failure to attend for an oral caution, or comply with any order from a College commitee.
  4. Engaging in conduct unbecoming an optician.
